Kurt Vile is quietly becoming one of the great American songwriters of our time. He's a star in his Philadelphia hometown, with a mayoral decree that August 28 will officially be Kurt Vile Day. His latest release, Wakin On A Pretty Daze, is a timeless record that will still sound great 30 years from now. Steve Powers, a renowned street artist, painted the cover mural on an abandoned building in Philly. The beautiful, 9-minute opener "Wakin On A Pretty Day" sets the tone for this impressive, 69-minute double album.
Kurt Vile & The Violators will bring their caravan to Austin tomorrow night for a rock 'n roll show at The Mohawk. San Francisco's Sonny & the Sunsets will open with some beach-pop doo wop. It's gonna be a good one. Doors at 6:30. Tickets are on sale right here.
